Abstract Detail

The biology of rarity: Conservation of bryophytes and lichens

Harpel, Judith [1].

Conservation and Management of Rare Bryophytes on USFS and BLM Lands in the Pacific Northwest.

With the implementation of the Northwest Forest Plan in 1994 bryophytes became an important component of managing for rare species on U.S. Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management lands within the Pacific Northwest. Management recommendations, survey protocols, and strategic surveys were developed and conducted for 27 bryophyte species under the Survey and Manage provisions of the Plan. Over the last 10 years information and data on these species has been collected through field surveys, herbaria and literature searches. What have we learned and where are we now?
